Roseau

Roseau is a city located in Saint George Parish of Dominica. It is the capital of Dominica and the largest city on the island. It is also the most populous with about 17,000 people. Constructed on the ancient Carib village of Sairi, Roseau is bordered by the Caribbean Sea, the Roseau River, and Morne Bruce.

The architecture of ancient houses in Roseau reflects British and French influences. Some examples of West Indian architecture can also be found in the city, with many of the churches constructed according to ancient Georgian and Roman designs. Roseau is a commercial hub where many surrounding areas develop from, and there are central districts that are used for shopping, gardens, playing fields, and social events.

Roseau is home to primary schools, secondary schools, and the Dominica State College (DSC).

The urban structure of the city favours commercial establishments, and this is why many people leave remote villages for Roseau in search of employment and better economic opportunities.

There is Fort Young Hotel and many other smaller resorts around the city, and there is a TV station, one national radio station, and two private radio stations in the city. There are several NGOs such as the ChildFund International USA, the Dominica Association of Industry and Commerce, Waitukubuli Ecological Foundation, the Dominica Tourism Association, and numerous labour organizations.

The Windsor Park stadium is located in the city and it is fully equipped with all sporting facilities and infrastructure. There is a Botanical Gardens for social activities and children frequent this to have fun. The Boiling Lake is close to Roseau and so are other tourist attractions such as the Morne Trois Pitons National Park, thermal springs, waterfalls, and fascinating plateaus.
