Hagley

Hagley is a village in the Saint Patrick Parish of Dominica.

It is a small village with resident farmers and fishermen as well as businessmen.

Considering that many homes were affected when Hurricane Maria hit nearly three years ago, the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development constructed 10 new resilient homes in Concord, within the community of Hagley, to help families who were most affected by the storm.

Also, given that the topography of the community is a very difficult one and the roads are bad, the government under the intervention of parliamentary representative for the Grand Bay constituency, Justina Charles, in 2015 rehabilitated many roads in Hagley.

The road rehabilitation project cost $90,000 and 15 residents in Hagley village were employed for the exercise.

“This Hagley Road has been in a dilapidated condition for a little while to the extent that bus drivers would not take passengers there because they felt it was too bad to drive on,” Honourable Justina Charles said. “From the last tranche of money we got, I just thought I would engage a contractor from Hagley to do this piece of road. I can tell you that I am very satisfied with it. As I look at the work, I really feel that he has stretched that $90,000. When you engage people in the area to work, they claim ownership and try to make the best of the resources.”
