Dominica to Host 400 Catholic Youths for Antilles Episcopal Youth Assembly

Catholic youths in Dominica will be hosting 400 visiting youths from outside the island and another 400 adults and church leaders from within the island. The conference is for the Antilles Episcopal Youth Assembly 2021.

Archbishop Kenneth Richards led a team of six delegates from the AEC Youth Secretariat to conduct feasibility studies in the country in readiness for the scheduled conference. According to the archbishop, the theme for the conference is “Youth the Face of Christ Alive” and it is all about youth evangelism.

The Church leader said the theme was inspired from the Christus Vivit, a document prepared by the Holy Father, Pope Francis.

“The essence of that document is to call young people to recognize that the church is depending on them and expecting their leadership in church evangelism,” Richards said. “A large part of it will be catechesis which will be exploring and deepening their faith with respect to Catholic teachings and spirituality and understanding the scripture.”

The two-week conference will include seeking answers to environmental problems as well. Richards said Pope Francis is always worried about environmental degradation, global warming, and consumerism and urges world leaders to come together for a solution.

He said the Holy Father wants everyone to understand the impacts they are having on the environment with a view to increasing environmental consciousness and make the world a better and safer place for all.
