Three-Day Workshop for Implementation of Green Climate Fund Project

The Roosevelt Skerrit-led administration in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is organizing a three-day workshop for stakeholders in the green initiatives sector. The programme will herald the implementation of the Green Climate Fund (GCF) “Readiness” project in Dominica.

The three-day workshop started on January 27 at the Prevost Cinema and started off with consultations with stakeholders in civil society organizations and members of the general public on undertaking climate change risk assessements.

Considering her drive to become the first country in the world to achieve 100% climate resilience, the Dominican government has obtained the approval and backing of the GCF through its Readiness initiative to achieve total dependence on green and renewable energy. The GCF will be partnering with the government to build capacity for the National Designated Authority (NDA).

An international climate specialist and facilitator of the workshop, George de Bert Romilly, told participants that the overall objective of the seminar is to generate better appreciation for climate issues, capacity and risks.

“We want to be able to identify what you see, what you understand being the greatest risk of climate change on a disaster-resilient point of view,” Romilly said. “We want to understand what your needs are and we want to design a project for you specifically civil society.”
