Green Climate Fund Launches with Workshop on Disaster Management

The Green Climate Fund (GCF) is currently running a three-day workshop on disaster management for stakeholders on the island. The event was sponsored by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) following the launching of GCF in Dominica.

The workshop is running under GCF’s Readiness programme and will extend from Monday, January 27 to Wednesday, January 29.

Participants and representatives of civil society groups at the workshop include those from –

  • Agricultural and fisheries groups
  • Academic institutions
  • Community disaster preparedness groups
  • Community development groups
  • Dominica Association of Persons with a Disability
  • Dominica Red Cross

Apart from the fact that the workshop is aimed at articulating various projects that will facilitate GCF funding, the programme will also sensitize countries who have pledged to reduce greenhouse gas emissions to begin to do so in earnest.

GCF provides funding for countries that are committed to internationally-accepted agricultural practices, climate resilience, and improved environmental activities. This fact was revealed by Michael Savarin, the national project coordinator for GCF in Dominica.
