Jason Fontaine has sued for peace after winning another election to La Plain village council. A former member of the La Plaine/La Ronde village council, Fontaine was expelled a couple years back over what the council leaders termed as unpardonable infractions. The council invoked the Village Council Ordinance Chapter 190 (8) and declared Fontaine’s seat vacant after expelling him from the assembly.
However, Fontaine contested the elections again the second time in a by-election to fill his vacant seat, and won. But he was not sworn in because councilmen walked out of the meeting when the agenda for his oath-taking came up. He regarded the situation as unfortunate and implored councilmen to allow “common sense prevail” so that the entire community can move forward.
But this time around, Fontaine is calling for councilmen to sheath their swords and administer the necessary oaths to him after he won again in another election. He said he spoke with new parliamentary representative Kent Edwards over the need to get the community moving again in the right direction for peace and progress.
“We need to all work together for the community…we have a new parl rep (Kent Edwards) I have personally spoken to him and given him the assurance that we need to work closely together,” Fontaine said. “La Plaine people have clearly sent a message that they want Jason Fontaine in the council…we have to move on with the people’s business and get the work done.”
Meanwhile, Local Government Commissioner Glenroy Toussaint has congratulated the five elected members of the village council and urged them to “put all their differences aside and work for the betterment of the community and the local government.”
