Police Arrest Hit-and-Run Driver Who Knocked Down a Mentally-Challenged Man

The police have arrested a man in connection with a hit-and-run bus incident. The driver of a white bus was caught on video hitting a mentally-challenged man identified as Ian Wilkins without stopping to help his victim. The bus belongs to tour operator Shepherd “Sheppee” Fregiste and the driver was arrested after the bus was found undergoing repairs the following day.

Police authorities revealed that the arrested man turned himself in in the company of his lawyer. They also added that Wilkins has been hospitalized and is responding to treatment. Fregiste who was recently commended by PM Roosevelt Skerrit for promoting Dominica to the outside world and billed to be confirmed as Tourism Ambassador by Parliament noted in a short release that he was not the driver of the bus at the time of the incident even though he was the rightful owner.

He thanked his fans across the island for their understanding and said the matter is under investigation by the police, but that an official statement will be released later.

“[I] would like all my fans and everyone else out there to know that Shepee was not the driver at the time of the unfortunate incident,” he wrote. “I cannot say anything much right now as the situation is currently under investigation. An official statement will be sent out afterward. One love and thank you for your continued support.”

The incident happened on Sunday, July 12, 2020 in Pottersville close to Cadrec.
