Harlem Wins Recovery Cup against Bath Estate under Watchful Police Eyes
Promex Harlem FC has won the DFA’s Recovery Knockout Cup championship against Happi Bath Estate FC. Harlem won in a 5-4 penalty shootout after initially drawing a 3-3 equalizer at the Windsor Park Stadium under the watchful eyes of police officials. The law enforcement officials were on hand to ensure that COVID-19 protocols were adhered to by match officials and spectators.
Bath Estate first fell behind in the games when they scored a home-goal after a defender confused the goalkeeper by deflecting the ball in the 27th minute of the match. But the team put up a fight on the pitch and scored a goal to equalize against Harlem after Julian Wade took a free-kick. Then Bath’s Jarvis Humphreys and Audelle Laville found the back of the net in the 47th and 68th minute repectively to lead by 3-1.
But Harlem equalized in quick successions with the help of Captain Kelrick Walter and Julian Wade and the scores tied at 3-3, leading to a penalty shootout. Harlem scored all their five penalty kicks but Bath Estate scored only four and lost one from Derrickson McDonald Jr., giving Harlem United a 5-4 win over Bath.
Considering that Harlem FC has been in existence for 50 years, coach Don Leogal said the team’s win was a 50th-anniversary victory for the football club. Bath Estate coach Collin Bernard also credited his boys for putting up a good fight, noting that the loss would be the second to be experienced at the hands of Harlem for a championship cup.
