Sir Dennis Byron Invites 35 Organizations to Contribute to Electoral Reform

Former president of the Caribbean Court of Justice and consultant on electoral reforms, Sir Dennis Byron, in collaboration with the Dominica Electoral Commission, is inviting more than 35 organizations within the country to make meaninful contributions to the ongoing electoral reform process in Dominica.

The process for modifying and updating the electoral system in Dominica is billed to begin on February 1, and those invited to make desired contributions include political parties, civic groups, NGOs, and other pressure organizations across the island.

Sir Byron was hired by the Skerrit-led administration to review the oral and written submissions of the organizations as well as draft amendments to electoral bills and other instruments necessary for electoral integrity in Dominica. The consultant is also expected to draft advice on voting eligibility, use of ID cards for voting, and review constitutional provisions for voting processes.

Sir Byron in partnership with the electoral commission has been finalizing the methodology for consultation and involvement with various groups and the general public on the electoral voting processes in Dominica. The consultant may also suggest legislative drafts and file necessary reports that will enable him achieve his assigned roles.

The electoral commission disclosed that the consultant will consider the use of questionnare, phone-in radio programmes, and other digital avenues to generate contributions from targeted organizations and the general public.
