Good Hope and San Sauveur Road to Be Reconstructed and Lit Up After 35 Years

The Good Hope and San Sauveur road which had been damaged since 1986 is to be reconstructed and lit up at the estimated cost of $849,980. Constructed in 1964, the road had been abandoned for 35 years following a major landslide. However, PM Roosevelt Skerrit said it began to undergo rehabilitation since April 8 after the reconstruction was awarded to a notable contractor.

According to Skerrit, the reconstruction of the road will also include installation of electric lights to make usage of the road easier at nights. He said the reconstruction is an investment towards the ease and safety of the community people who would favour using the new bypass.

The Minister for Public Works, Senator Cassani Laville, said the road reconstruction is a testimony to the infrastructural resiliency of the Skerrit administration. Following the initial excavation, drainage, and tarish, Laville said the use of asphaltic concrete or Portland cement concrete depends on the results of a subsequent geothermal research.

“We will continue to create linkages by building roads and bridges and maintaining that infrastructure,” Laville said. “We will continue to improve on access by not only patching roads and doing routine maintenance, but we will do like what we have done today, look at creating more efficient linkages to the communities to decrease vulnerability.”

In a related development, Education Minister Octavia Alfred appreciated the DLP government for working to restore the road connecting Savanne Jack to Tete Poponne in Good Hope. While the MP for Roseau Valley, Dr. Irving McIntyre, revealed that the government is set to upgrade many tourism attractions in Roseau Valley and these includes the Cabaniss Wall and the Shangri La Resort in Wotten Waven.
