Making Govt Payments to Become Possible With Bank Cards and Digital Wallets

Making payments for drivers’ licenses and birth certificates will soon become possible with bank cards and mobile digital wallets. The same goes for passports, custom fees, and excise duties among others. According to coordinator for the digital economy, Robert Tonge, payments for all government services will soon be payable with credit and debit cards as well as mobile digital wallets.

The government is partnering with Digicel’s Infrastructure Project to facilitate online and mobile payments for all government services, including clearing goods at the country’s ports. This will become possible with Digicel’s upgrade to ICT infrastructure within the country. As it stands, critical government agencies are powered by underground fibres to make satellite connections and redundancy options available even after a natural disaster.

“That in itself is a remarkable achievement; and one which we will be building upon to incorporate other services including customs and excise at the ports, basically paying for the entire process of clearing via your credit cards or debit cards; and hopefully soon with your mobile digital wallets,” Robert Tonge said. The online and digital wallet payment options will speed up government services and boost response time for getting everything done. Goods will be cleared faster in ports and cable or Internet subscriptions will be done in an instant. It will also make government revenues transparent and accountable.
