Former NYCD President, Paul Baron, Wants Council Restructured or Dissolved

Former president of the National Youth Council of Dominica (NYCD), Paul Baron, said he wants the youth organization restructured or even dissolved. Baron said NYCD has lost its focus and is now dominated by self-serving leaders who care nothing for the thousands of youths in the country.

The former communications officer also noted that the NYCD was established to apply grassroots tactics to youth development in Dominica. But according to him, the NYCD is now dominated by youths who are not representing the entire youth population in the country and who are bent on lining their pockets with government subventions.

Baron, who also wants to serve as the parliamentary representative for the Salybia Constituency on the DFP platform, said the NYCD has become illegitimate given the flagrant disregard for the interests of Dominican youths. He contended that the current policies and pursuits are not in tandem with those of Dominican youths and antithetical to what the government wants for the youths.

Baron said part of the NYCD’s problems lies in the composition of the current executives who came aboard through an unconstitutional election. He called for a fresh election to be held to elect a new crop of leaders who would work for the upliftment of youths everywhere. He said unless a new election is held, the government should withhold the organization’s subvention since NYCD will be no different to a boys and girls club.
