Joshua Francis Suspended For 6 Months; UWP Sets Dec 12 for Delegates Meeting

The UWP has reportedly suspended former deputy political leader Joshua Francis for six months. The attorney was allegedly suspended for criticizing his party in a private conversation with an unnamed individual. The leaked conversation went viral and the former party executive apologized for his unguarded utterances.

In the leaked audio, Francis could be heard blaming the UWP leadership for his political woes. He also blamed them for his arrest following a sexual scandal that was swept under the carpet. He could also be heard saying PM Roosevelt Skerrit is better than UWP leader Lennox Linton. He went ahead to criticize the opposition for various situations that have not bode well for the party.

Although UWP President Isaac Baptiste would not expressly confirm Francis’ suspension, he made it clear that the party will speak to the press after communicating its decision to the attorney. He however stated that the executives of the party met and took a position on the infraction. Francis said he is sorry that the context of his grudge was hijacked, but maintained that he bared his mind based on truthful experiences.

“While I feel awful about this and regret the forum in which I engaged in such conversation; nonetheless, I stand by the facts which I presented as well as by my opinions,” he stated. “I walk and commune with truth first and truth last – the beginning and the end. I seek forgiveness from anyone who feels wronged by me. I hold no ill-will towards anyone in the party, country, and certainly mean no harm to anyone whatsoever.”

Francis said he will not file any legal charges against the individual that leaked his conversation. He said he will not charge him for breach of privacy, but noted that the person must change and stop spilling private conversations to the public. He also stated that legislators should enact a law against breach of private information since the intentions behind it could be malicious.

In a related development, the UWP announced that its delegates’ conference will hold on December 12, 2021. Party president, Isaac Baptiste, said a new party leader and other key officials will be elected at the conference. He said the party ought to hold its conference in November, but postponed it to December due to necessary developments.
