Police Constable Ransom Frederick Arraigned In Court for Attempted Murder

Police Constable Ransom Frederick has been arraigned at the magistrate court in Roseau for the attempted murder of Glennie Bruney. Frederick allegedly shot Bruney four times in the early morning of Saturday, July 9, at River Street. The victim has been admitted to the Dominica China Friendship Hospital (DCFH) where he is currently receiving treatment.

While the circumstances surrounding the shooting incident is still sketchy, why a police officer would shoot an individual four times is still a mystery – perhaps the reason Frederick is being charged for attempted murder.

Magistrate Pearl Williams granted bail to the accused who is represented by attorney Wayne Norde. But when the accused was not able to perfect his bail immediately, Magistrate Gloria Augustus refused to grant the bail when the court resumed later. Prosecution attorney Diana Mathew urged Augustus to put the accused in police custody until Williams will be on seat again to grant the bail. Meanwhile, 31-year-old Alston Lawrence was shot to death in his house on July 10 while 34-year-old Allen Pacquette of Mahaut was shot to death on July 12 – the 11th and 12th homicide events to be recorded in Dominica this year. The assailants of Lawrence and Pacquette have not been apprehended yet, but the incidents underscore the rising volume of gun violence and related deaths in the country.
