DSC Renovates Campus Buildings in Readiness for Students’ Resumption

The Dominica State College (DSC) has begun renovating some of its campus buildings in readiness for students’ resumption in September. The institution’s facilities management consultant, Dereck Guiste, revealed that contracts have been awarded for refurbishing various facilities across the campus. He said this will enable the new students to enjoy their stay on campus and to excel in their disciplines.

Even as we speak presently, we have some contracts that have already been signed. So we have a lot of big things to come; including refurbishment of the lower campus, all the faculties, workshops, auditoriums, and libraries.

Guiste said the campus was impacted during the 2017 Hurricane Maria incident, but the government has done a lot to restore and improve facilities across the institution. Meanwhile, the institution’s Dean of Academic Affairs, Dr. Hermancia Eugene, has advised the new students admitted into DSC to be focused on their courses and develop a positive mindset for success.

While listing out a few tips that will help the students to excel in their chosen fields of study, Eugene tasked the undergraduates to work together with faculty members to achieve their purposes. She said that achieving academic objectives is possible if students would work with faculty officials and lecturers for common good.

She urged the undergraduates to be disciplined, seek counsel, adheres to campus regulations, and to be God-fearing. Eugene said DSC remains committed to undergraduates’ success, and that hundreds of the institution’s graduates are overseas and within the country performing excellently in life after tertiary education at the DSC.

A chat with a cross-section of fresh undergraduates revealed their gladness to be admitted to study their chosen courses of study at the institution. Some of them promised to make their parents and families proud, while others reiterated that they need to win at the institution to succeed in their careers after graduation. They said they are happy with all they have learned during the one week of orientation programmes at the DSC and look forward to a rewarding academic year.
