Power of the People is Greater Than the People in Power – Bernie Ryan

The chairman of the UWP St. Joseph Constituency Association, Bernie Ryan, has told Dominicans that the power of the people is greater than the people in power. He made this assertion to underscore the fact the citizens have the power to elect and to remove their leaders. He stated that Dominicans must realize they have the electoral power to determine who governs them.

According to Ryan, it is not helpful for Dominicans to wait endlessly for electoral reforms and voters ID cards as well as voter registration cleansing when they can take action in the coming general election to change the fate of the country. He noted that democratic change lies in the hands of the people and not necessarily in the clutches of the government.

He tasked Dominicans to stop complaining about bad leadership, and to let their votes or lack of votes speak for them. He said power and ability lies in the hands of the people and that they should weild it to determine their national destiny and that of the generation coming after them. The chairman stated that government will be forced to listen when people cast or refuse to cast their votes.

Meanwhile, one of the four independent candidates for St. Joseph Constituency, Ferdinand Marcus Germaine, has pledged to bring good governance to the constituency if people vote him into power in the coming election. He promised to bring home the dividends of democracy as they relate to good roads, stable electricity, reliable communication networks, and economic prosperity among others.
