Press Release

Conserve Your Purchases and Consumption of Petroleum Products

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, International Business, Trade and Energy has been informed by the major importers of petroleum products (gasoline, diesel and kerosene) that high sea swells in the past two weeks have prevented the loading of products unto their vessels for export to Dominica, causing delays
in the delivery of supplies.

The Office of Disaster Management (ODM) has advised that strong winds associated with Tropical Disturbance AL99 are pushing large swells towards Dominica, Antigua and Barbuda and other Caribbean islands. Regional media reports confirm that severe wind and sea conditions have prohibited the landing of petroleum products in several Caribbean destinations.

The Chief Executive Officer of the Dominica Air and Seaport Authority (DASPA) has also reported challenges with the offloading of goods due to adverse conditions.

The Government of Dominica assures citizens that there are petroleum products, including gasoline, on island. However, citizens are urged to be conservative with their purchases and consumption.

The Ministry is working closely with suppliers and importers to secure the delivery of petroleum products to Dominica in the shortest possible time.
