2023 Inter-Secondary School Debates Starts between SMSS and CBSS

The first round of the 2023 inter-secondary school debates organized by Ms. Trudy Christian has started. St. Martin Secondary School (SMSS) and Castle Bruce Secondary School (CBSS) will face-off against each other, and then the Arthur Waldron Seventh Day Adventist (AWSDA) and St. Mary’s Academy (SMA) secondary schools will battle each other in the first round.

A total of 10 secondary schools will feature in the five debates slated for the first round. The first round of the debates will hold at the UWI Open Campus Auditorium and the second round will hold at the DPSU building in Roseau. Debaters from various secondary schools are ready to combat one another on Thursday and Friday afternoons.

Some of the topics that the debaters will thrash include drug abuse and drug rehabilitation; discrimination against fathers in social, financial and religious systems; as well as deforesting Dominica’s natural resources to allow for industrial expansions, among others.

Other schools listed for the competition include Orion Academy, Portsmouth Secondary School, North-East Secondary School, Concord High School, Dominica Community High School, Isaiah Thomas Secondary School, and Western High School among others. One school was said to have withdrawn from the debate competition. The final winners will have prizes presented to them at a set date.
