Lennox Linton Tasks Electoral Commission to Sensitize On Electoral Reform

The president of the United Workers Party (UWP), Lennox Linton, has tasked the electoral commission on sensitizing the public on the importance of electoral reform. He accused PM Roosevelt Skerrit of hoarding the report that Sir Dennis Byron released to him, saying the prime minister is reluctant on making the report public.

Linton said it is the duty of the electoral commission to sensitize the public on how the Byron report can benefit the entire peoples of Dominica. He noted that publicizing the report and making it open for public discourse and inputs will ensure a free and fair electoral process in the country. According to him, it appears the Skerrit administration has cowed the electoral commission into submission, and the commission is no longer independent to serve the interest of the people.

The UWP president declared that people might call him names or even vilify him for speaking the truth to power on electoral reform, but he remains committed to political ideals that will emancipate the entire citizenry and the Dominican nation. Adding that new electoral commissioners are appointed after each election, the opposition spearhead said the citizenry must also understand the reaches and limits of the commission in ensuring that democracy prevails.
