Event Details

Create Caribbean Research Institute (CCRI) has launched the application process for the second annual Summer Intensive Training (SIT) for Community Partners. From June 19th to 30th 2023, representatives of local and regional organizations will receive training in digital tools and methods for community development at the University of the West Indies Open Campus in Dominica and online via Zoom. Spaces are limited – only one member of an organization will be chosen.

The SIT is a paid two week, 60-hour intensive workshop designed to introduce digital humanities tools and methods to community organizations and public agencies. Caribbean groups working in the arts and cultural heritage, education and youth development, STEM and/or climate and the environment are strongly encouraged to apply. Application and Recommendations will be accepted until 5th May 2023.

In 2022, fve organizations from Dominica participated: Dominica Public Library and Information Services, The Chronicle Newspaper, Waitukubuli Writers Association, and One Seed a Day Initiative and CCRI’s academic partner, Dominica State College. The frst SIT introduced tools for mapping, creating timelines, basic coding and applications of augmented reality. Participants also explored 3-D modeling and design, web publishing, and minimal computing. The 2023 SIT is now open to organizations across the Caribbean region.

Support for selected organizations continues in the academic year after the training. Participating organizations will beneft from workshops and additional training from CCRI staff and partners on topics related to their project development. Additionally, CCRI student interns will assist each team with digital projects developed during the SIT using tools introduced at the summer workshops. Each organization will retain rights to the work produced during this partnership. There are also opportunities for additional workshops, small grants, and increased exposure during the year-long agreement. Reach out to us at info@createcaribbean.org for more information and the full terms of the agreement.

The Summer Intensive Training is supported by the Caribbean Digital Scholarship Collective and the Mellon Foundation.
