Dominica to Implement E-Gate Technology Later In the Fiscal Year
The Ministry of Public Works and Digital Economy is set to implement E-gate technology in the current fiscal year. The initiative is geared at automating the immigration process for visitors coming into Dominica; and to expedite border checks for travellers with electronic passports.
The Minister of Digital Economy, Fidel Grant, said E-gate technology will boost tourism in the country and improve government revenue. He added that it will also enhance the efficiency with which customs and immigration officers perform their duties.
Although E-gate technology is still forthcoming, the Ministry for Digital Economy has already implemented E-card in Dominica. This innovative digital solution is part of the government’s plan to facilitate safe and efficient border crossings for everyone. The online immigration and customs card system will enable people to enter or exit the country without bottlenecks.
Meanwhile, Fidel Grant has credited Dominicans for their resilience at coping with limited local resources in the face of the economic downturns that hit the country. He said the government remains committed to providing viable opportunities for the people and to empower them economically and politically.
He said that Dominica has weathered several storms and natural disasters and that these have brought out the inner strengths in everyone. He added that with more understanding and cooperation, the government will be able to improve the standard of living and make Dominica topmost country in the Caribbean.
