Sagicor South-East Crashes Out; Sagicor Somerset Supports Chance Marshall

After suffering a shaming defeat from Scholars International in St. Kitts, Sagicor South-East has crashed out of the Club Championship football tournament. In its first game, Sagicor South-East lost the match to Scholars International by two goals – first goal in the first half and the second goal in the first half.

In its second match, Sagicor also lost to the French club Golden Lion FC by 11-1. Conceding 11 goals is considered a humiliating defeat by many standards, while Sagicor could only respond to Golden Lion’s battery with only one goal. This means that the Dominican team has crashed out of the tournament in St. Kitts.

Meanwhile, Sagicor General Somerset Sports Club of St. Joseph has announced its readiness to support Chance Marshall, a 20-year-old player, after he was made the captain of the Under 15 National Football Team. Marshall was a member of the Somerset squad tht won the last cricket championship in 2018.

His father, Roy Marshall, is the current captain of Somerset and the record holder of the highest individual score in Windward Island Cricket. Sagicor General Somerset Sports Club presented a “tangible contribution” to Marshall senior to assist the younger Marshall in his tour of duty as he positions himself to embark on his second overseas tour.

“We encourage him to lead by example and one of the best ways to do that is to exhibit a high level of discipline, both on and off the field,” the management of Sagicor General Somerset Sports Club advised him. “He also needs to work closely with his coach along with other technical staff, thereby demonstrating due respect for authority.

“Very importantly, working under the guidance of his parents, he needs to ensure that he maintains the right balance between sports and academics. While Somerset does not have a football team, we believe that we have a moral obligation to support the young man the best we can and so within the confines of our meagre resources.”
