A Decade of Dedication: Reflecting on President Charles Savarin’s Contribution

Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit took a moment to acknowledge the remarkable ten-year tenure of President Charles Savarin as one characterized by “commitment and love for the nation.” His Excellency Charles Savarin is set to step down from his presidential role on October 1, 2023, to make way for Sylvanie Burton, who will be sworn in on October 2, 2023, marking a historic moment as Dominica’s first female President and the first of Kalinago heritage.

In his reflection, Prime Minister Skerrit described President Savarin’s service as one of distinction, marked by a profound and sincere love for the country. He expressed his gratitude for the wisdom, intellect, and knowledge that President Savarin generously shared during his tenure and conveyed his appreciation to both the President and his family for their dedicated service to Dominica.

Outgoing President Charles Savarin had equally praiseworthy words for President-Elect Sylvanie Burton. He commended her as an exceptional individual, level-headed, and well-informed. Her impressive leadership in her community and her role as Permanent Secretary in the public service showcased her competence and made her eminently qualified for the role of Dominica’s President.
