Police Enforce Traffic Regulations for Upcoming World Creole Music Festival

As the 23rd edition of the World Creole Music Festival (WCMF) approaches, the Commonwealth of Dominica Police Force (CDPF) is taking action to ensure the smooth flow of traffic in Roseau during this grand event, scheduled from October 27 to 29.

The Superintendent in charge of the Central Division, Belgrove Charles, has outlined a series of traffic regulations to manage the increased traffic expected during the festival.

Parking restrictions will be enforced starting at 6 p.m. on Friday, October 27, and remain in place until 6 a.m. the following day. During this period, no parking will be permitted on several key roads in Roseau. These include:

  • Both sides of Valley Road, from Boyd Avenue to Bath Road.
  • Both sides of River Street, from the link road bridge to the Bath Estate Bridge.
  • Bath Road, from the junction with Kingshill and Morne Bruce Road to the southwestern gate of the Botanic Gardens.
  • Southern side of the Riverside Apartments, from the junction of Goodwill Road to the car park area.
  • The area around the link road roundabout.
  • Kennedy Avenue, from its intersection with Independence Street to Bath Road.

Despite these restrictions, there are designated areas where parking will be allowed, such as the north and south sides of Rose Street, a section of Elmshall Road, and the northern side of Valley Road, among others.

Diversions will be in place to manage traffic effectively. For instance, northbound vehicles on Bath Road will be diverted west along Cork Street, while southbound traffic on the new Link Road Bridge will be directed to turn east or west along River Street. Motorists traveling south on Independence Street will be rerouted west along Hillsborough Street.

Additionally, to ensure a smooth and secure festival experience, vending will not be permitted on specific roads during the festival, including Bath Road from Cork Street to River Street, Kennedy Avenue from Bath Road to Independence Street, and a section of Hillsborough Street from Bath Road to Independence Street.

These traffic regulations and security measures are designed to make the WCMF enjoyable for everyone while maintaining public safety and order. The police force has also reiterated that prohibited items, including firearms, drugs, knives, and other offensive objects, will not be allowed at the venue.
