Kokoy – Banana

Kokoy (Musa Balbisiana), different from the Kokoy language, is a type of banana found in Dominica. It resembles a stubbier version of the Cavendish banana and is less sweet. It is often prepared by boiling, roasting, or frying. Kokoy is part of traditional Dominica cooking but is less popular than plantains and ordinary bananas. Due to its starchy and versatile nature, it is used in various dishes, especially in rural areas of Saint Andrew Parish and Portsmouth. The Kokoy banana plays a role in Dominica’s Eco-Tourism, as visitors experience local cuisine and agriculture.
