Christian Musical Class

The Christian Musical Class, founded by Lemuel McPherson Christian on August 1, 1944, is considered one of Dominica’s most significant contributions to music education. Established when formal music instruction was rare on the island, the school became a cornerstone of Dominica’s cultural heritage. It provided instruction in various instruments, including the guitar, piano, and violin, as well as musical theory. The institution was a place of learning and a beacon for nurturing local talent, offering access to music education for students of all backgrounds.

Lemuel Christian’s vision was to create an inclusive yet rigorous curriculum that catered to the musical aspirations of Dominica’s youth. Although strict, his approach was widely respected for producing skilled musicians who would go on to play pivotal roles in Dominica’s music scene. Many students of the Christian Musical Class became accomplished musicians, educators, and cultural ambassadors, ensuring that the school’s legacy extended well beyond its founder’s lifetime.
