83 Small Businesses Shine at Ti Vilaj Kwéyòl 2024
Ti Vilaj Kwéyòl 2024, a four-day event showcasing Dominica’s cultural heritage and local businesses, began today, October 21, and will run until October 24, 2024. Now in its third year, the event features 83 small businesses offering various products ranging from food and beverages to health, wellness, and craft items. Launched in 2022 to replace the Creole in the Park, Ti Vilaj Kwéyòl complements the World Creole Music Festival and highlights the essence of Dominica’s Independence Celebrations and Creole Heritage Month.
Gloria Joseph, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Labour, Public Service Reform, Social Partnership, Entrepreneurship and Small Business Development, highlighted the diverse range of vendors participating. She explained that the event offers a platform for small businesses to showcase their products to both locals and tourists. “We have 28 vendors focused on food and beverage, while the others are offering a variety of locally made products, including beauty and agro-processed items,” Joseph stated.
Attendees are in for a cultural treat, with activities ranging from shopping for exotic foods and drinks to experiencing Dominican traditions like cassava processing at the Cassava House. “This year’s event promises to be an educational experience, especially with demonstrations on how cassava is processed into farine,” Joseph noted.
The entertainment lineup is equally exciting. Local performers such as the First Serenade Band, Kalinago Dancers, and DJ Remz will entertain attendees. Other acts like Swinging Stars, Michelle Henderson, and Paix Bouche Drummers are scheduled throughout the week.
Dominicans and visitors alike are encouraged to attend and support local businesses. The event not only celebrates culture but also serves as a significant boost to the local economy by giving vendors a platform to reach new customers and grow their businesses.
