PM Skerrit Meets with India’s State Minister to Boost Bilateral Relations

During his visit to India, Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit of Dominica held a meeting with India’s Union Minister of State for External Affairs, Shri Pabitra Margherita, at Hyderabad House on Sunday. The meeting included an exchange of flags, symbolizing a commitment to deepening ties between Dominica and India. Skerrit’s visit, concluding today, highlighted efforts to explore avenues for cooperation across various sectors.

Prime Minister Skerrit’s three-day trip to New Delhi began on Friday, with a welcoming reception by Dr. Pradeep Rajpurohit, as shared on Facebook by the Indian Embassy in Trinidad and Tobago. “High Commissioner Dr. Pradeep Rajpurohit received Hon. Roosevelt Skerrit…at Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi today,” the post said, confirming Skerrit’s arrival in India to attend the NDTV Summit in Chandigarh.

The Prime Minister was accompanied by Emmanuel Nanthan, head of Dominica’s Citizenship by Investment Unit, and traveled in a convoy provided by India’s Ministry of External Affairs. This engagement is anticipated to enhance diplomatic and economic collaboration, creating beneficial prospects for both nations.

The Indian government has previously extended support to Dominica, notably in the aftermath of Tropical Storm Erika in 2015, Hurricane Maria in 2017, and during the COVID-19 pandemic. The sizable Indian diaspora in Dominica is also recognized for its contributions to the local economy and diverse fields.

With these promising discussions, Dominica and India are looking forward to new partnerships that will further strengthen their diplomatic and economic connections.
