La Vie Miel Honey Earns Top Spot at International Honey Show
Dominica beekeeper Nathaniel Lovell made history by taking first place in the International Honey category at the UK National Honey Show with his brand, La Vie Miel. This prestigious event, held from October 24-26, 2024, is the world’s longest-running honey show and attracts competitors globally. This year’s show marked Dominica’s first-ever entry, and Lovell’s win has highlighted the growing international interest in Dominica honey products.
Lovell’s success follows his previous accolades at the 2023 St. Lucia Honey Show, where he won awards for Best Light Amber Honey, Best Dark Amber Honey, and Best in Show. His recent win further underscores the high quality of Dominica honey and signals promising growth potential for the local apiculture and beekeeping industry.
“I’ve always felt that our Dominican honey has unique qualities, and it feels amazing to have this recognized on such a global stage,” Lovell shared, adding, “Representing Dominica in this international arena is a proud moment for me.”
Operating over 100 beehives across seven apiaries from Coulibistrie to Salisbury, Lovell offers a range of honey varieties under La Vie Miel, including Spring Honey, Summer Honey, Savonette Honey, and Creamed Honey. Lovell, the Vice President and former President of the National Beekeepers Cooperative, also mentors young beekeepers and is currently advancing his studies in the Master Beekeeper Program at the University of Florida.
This award has brought much-deserved recognition to Dominican honey, reflecting both Lovell’s dedication and the potential of the beekeeping industry on the island.
