Dominica Olympic Committee Donates Supplies to Grotto Home
In a demonstration of community support, the Dominica Olympic Committee (DOC) has provided a generous donation of toiletries and cleaning supplies to the Community Hostels Inc. (CHI), also known as the Grotto Home for the Homeless. This contribution comes at a crucial time for the Grotto Home, which cares for approximately 40 residents and has faced ongoing challenges in providing essential services.
Former Grotto Home President Ainsworth Irish, who remains actively involved with the organization, highlighted the immense impact of this donation. He acknowledged the daily struggles of the Grotto Home in offering three meals a day to its residents and emphasized how these supplies would help alleviate some of the financial and logistical burdens they face. Irish also referred to the gesture as a significant and noble act, especially as the organization looks ahead to another challenging year.
The DOC, through its Secretary Hazel Bruno, expressed hope that the donation would not only support the home but also inspire its residents to utilize the supplies effectively. Bruno underscored the committee’s commitment to community upliftment, extending its contributions beyond the sphere of athletics.
The donation also aligns with the DOC’s broader mission to foster positive development across Dominica. Irish commended the DOC for its dedication to the nation, referencing its recent successes in sports, including Thea Lafond’s gold medal achievement, as a testament to its multifaceted contributions.
This act of generosity exemplifies the DOC’s ongoing efforts to support Dominica’s communities, bridging the gap between athletic achievement and social responsibility. For the Grotto Home, this contribution symbolizes a step forward in ensuring that the organization can continue providing care and dignity to those who rely on its services.
