Pastor Randy Rodney Says He Has Mandate from God to Tell the Truth to Power
Pastor Randy Rodney said he has a mandate from God to tell the truth to power. He said he cannot be shut down from speaking the truth to those in authority, adding he will speak the truth to either Roosevelt Skerrit or Lennox Linton or whoever is in power without let or hindrance. “I will not be intimidated when I think I stand on scripture and on justice,” he declared to those in power.
Pastor Rodney made this assertion while clearing the air about a statement he purportedly made during a radio interview programme. In the course of the radio talk, Rodney had advised the prime minister in reference to electoral reform that “we have it now; make sure it is done. This is not about throwing stones, but there is something much harder than stones.”
The outspoken pastor said he has faced harsh and unwarranted criticism over the statement, saying people are just condemning him unfairly for what they understand little about. He said he is tired of defending his statement, saying he will not be intimidated into keeping silent where those in government must be told the truth in matters relating to the entire citizenry.
Rodney disclosed that he was invited for a meeting with Police Commissioner Daniel Carbon. He said the 15-20 minutes focused on him and other religious leaders who do radio interviews. He said the police chief quizzed him about his radio statements, making him realize his hardline stance on the government does not sit well with many people. According to him, he maintained his stand with the police authorities, saying he has no apologies on matters concerning the welfare of Dominicans in general.
“I cannot be intimidated, like what I said to the commissioner, you will just have to take me out,” Rodney reportedly told Carbon. “But to try to intimidate me is a losing battle…I am a servant of God and if I have done something wrong I will take the punishment for it, I will apologize for it. That’s my calling and not the Commissioner, not the President, not the Prime Minister, nobody can stop that.”
Rodney insisted that he is not fighting against the DLP administration, but against injustice and unrighteousness and misuse of power. He said he will speak his mind regardless of whichever political party is in power.
“You can call Lennox Linton and ask him. I have already told him with no apologies if he gets or when he gets into government, if he decides to do anything that is untoward, I will be the first person he will hear from,” Rodney warned.
