Randel Coipel of We United Called Up to National Team against Suriname

Randel Coipel of We United Football Club in Castle Bruce has been called up to the national team. The young striker is presently in Suriname with the national team in a faceoff with the host country for the CONCACAF Nations League. He is now part of the 18-man squad that will battle any country for sports dominance at the national level.

The young player expressed joy at being called up to the national team, saying he is elated to play for club and country. He said playing for the national team against other countries is more a thing of pride and passion than it is of money, since sports is not a career job in Dominica.

“It is not about money, because in Dominica, it is not about money, it is your heart…this is not a job in Dominica,” Randel Coipel said. “In other places, [sports] is a job, but in Dominica, it is not a job. So it is your heart and love for the sports.”

Kurt Christmas, president of We United Football Club, expressed joy at having one of his club players called up to the national team. He said inviting Coipel to the national team is indicative of the efforts the players in his team are putting to their sports at the club level. He said whether he is drafted to play on the field or not, donning the national sports jersey is enough joy and reward for dedication to sports.

“We are very elated that one of our members got selected on the national team,” Christmas said. “We finally see the hard work that the young men are putting in it is paying off.  Whether he (Randel) starts the match or not is not really an issue. Just wearing your national colours is already a big moment for the young man, whether he actually plays or not.”

At the moment, the Dominica national sports team is made up of –

  1. Glenson Prince – captain
  2. Ajaya Royer
  3. Erskim Williams
  4. Javid George
  5. Travis Joseph

  11. Donan Jervier
