About Bureau of Gender Affairs

Established initially as a women's desk in 1980, the Bureau of Gender Affairs has evolved significantly over the years. It started with just one staff member, the Director, and gradually expanded to become the Women's Bureau with a staff of six. Today, it is known as the Bureau of Gender Affairs, staffed by five members. This evolution reflects a global response to the United Nations' call for integrating women in development. The Bureau is now a key machinery within the Ministry responsible for administering gender issues, including both men's and women's affairs.

Services and Functions of the Bureau of Gender Affairs

• Research: Conducts research on gender and related issues affecting the Dominican populace.
• Policy and Law Reform: Engages in lobbying for policy and law reform in line with gender concerns.
