Description

Dominica Coconut Products, started in the 1960s by Phillip Nassief, has evolved over the years and operates under the name DCP Colgate-Palmolive Company. It has become a cornerstone of the Caribbean soap manufacturing industry and significantly contributes to Dominica’s economy and regional trade.

About Dominica Coconut Products

Dominica Coconut Products, originally a leading manufacturer in the Caribbean, underwent several transformations over the years. Initially established and owned locally by the Nassief family, it became known for producing a wide range of coconut-based products, primarily soaps, which were largely exported. In the 1990s, it was acquired by Colgate-Palmolive and renamed, continuing operations under this global brand. The facility was the largest soap-manufacturing entity in the English-speaking Caribbean, significantly contributing to Dominica's economy by exporting 98% of its production and establishing Dominica as a regional hub for soap manufacturing.

The company, however, faced significant challenges over the years, including damage from Tropical Storm Erika and Hurricane Maria, which eventually led to its closure in 2015. Despite this, a group of investors acquired and attempted to revive the plant as "DCP Successors Ltd," re-employing some of the workforce and introducing new products like REDDY Soaps. Today, DCP Successors continues to operate, focusing on high-quality soap products that cater to niche markets and adhere to traditional soap-making methods.
