Description

The Dominica Herbal Business Association (DHBA), established in 2006, is a non-profit organisation dedicated to promoting the use of herbs in daily life through education and advocacy. Its mission encompasses increasing awareness about Dominica herbs and native plants, supporting local farmers and producers, providing training on cultivation and harvesting, and encouraging research into new herbal applications.

DHBA Objectives and Activities

  • Education and Promotion: Raising public awareness about the benefits and uses of herbs and native plants in Dominica.
  • Support for Local Producers: Assisting farmers and producers in cultivating, harvesting, and marketing herbal products.
  • Training and Development: Offering training programs to enhance herbal cultivation and product development skills.
  • Research and Innovation: Encouraging research into new uses for herbs and the development of value-added products.

To achieve its objectives, the association collaborates with government departments, including Health, Agriculture, Forestry, Education, Tourism and culture, Trade and industry, NGOs, and private sector partners.

Zeb Kweyol – House of Herbs

One of DHBA's significant achievements is the establishment of Zeb Kweyol – House of Herbs, a shop located at the Old Market Plaza in Roseau. This outlet allows members to display and sell their value-added herbal products, including teas, beauty and spa items, chocolates, and more. The shop exclusively offers Dominican-made products, adhering to international standards for packaging and labeling.

Leadership

As of February 2023, the DHBA elected a new executive board:

  • President: Mrs. Jodie Dublin-Dangleben, CEO of Jaydees Naturals, known for producing organic and natural hair, skin, and household products utilizing local herbs.
  • Vice President: Ms. Terri Henry, CEO of Bee Natural, specializing in 100% natural products made from Dominican beeswax, honey, and other local ingredients.
  • Treasurer: Mrs. Leontine Bellot
  • Secretary: Polly Patullo
  • Executive Director: Ginny Riviere

Community Engagement

DHBA actively engages with the community by organizing events, workshops, and training sessions to promote herbal knowledge and practices. The association also advocates for the preservation of Dominica's herbal heritage and the sustainable use of its biodiversity.

Through its initiatives, the Dominica Herbal Business Association continues to play a pivotal role in enhancing the herbal industry in Dominica, supporting local producers, and promoting the island's rich herbal traditions.
