Dominica’s New Dimension Theatre No Data
Description
The New Dimension Theatre (NDT), established in 1984, has become a prominent institution in Dominica’s cultural landscape. Founded by Steve Hyacinth, along with notable figures such as Jerry Coipel and Benji Shillingford, the group began as an extension of the Methodist Youth Group. Over the decades, it has evolved into the longest-running theatre group on the island. NDT has staged over 30 productions, including well-known performances like "Rum Punch and Prejudice" and "Desired Will", which explored themes of societal challenges, family drama, and cultural reflection.
Cultural Contribution and Legacy
NDT has played an integral role in fostering a love for drama and the performing arts in Dominica. With productions that range from comedies to deeply moving dramas, the theatre group has tackled themes of greed, envy, and social critique. The group has won numerous accolades, including the prestigious Golden Drum Award, a testament to their contribution to theatre on the island. NDT has also represented Dominica internationally at events like CARIFESTA.
Community Engagement and Training
In addition to its public performances, the New Dimension Theatre is committed to training the next generation of Dominican actors and theatre professionals. The group conducts workshops and in-house training to sharpen the skills of both emerging and veteran actors. Some of the group’s notable talents, including Donille Blackmore, have received special recognition for their contributions to Dominica theatre.
