Description

East Dominica Children's Federation (EDCF) empowers vulnerable groups in eastern Dominica with community-based projects. Supported by international funds, including the Canada Fund for Local Initiatives, EDCF raises awareness about sexual and gender-based violence, provides life skills training, and promotes economic viability.

About East Dominica Children's Federation (EDCF)

The East Dominica Children’s Federation is a formidable local non-profit organization that formerly partnered with ChildFund Caribbean. Focused on serving vulnerable children and youth up to 24 years old and their families, EDCF's mission is deeply rooted in the eastern parts of Dominica. We work on behalf of 23 communities along the east coast of Dominica AND BEYOND, promoting and building partnerships amongst relevant sectors as we work in unison for the common good of valuing, protecting and advancing the worth and rights of children.

We design, develop and implement programs and activities focused on Early Stimulation, Child Rights, Child-Friendly Schools, Youth Empowerment, Youth Volunteerism and Community Development.

Through our educational programs, skills training, and community engagement, EDCF aspires to create safer environments for the youth and empower them with knowledge and resources to lead fulfilling lives.

East Dominica Children's Federation Impact

  • Community Empowerment: Through the "Step Up, Step Out, Shout Out" project, EDCF significantly impacts communities by educating them on gender equality, assault prevention, and social development. This initiative not only aims to reduce violence but also equips both women and men with the necessary tools to foster safer family and community environments.
  • Skills Training: The organization is making strides in increasing income-generating opportunities by offering women and youth basic plumbing and electrical repair training. Additionally, a survivors’ support group provides further aid to those who have experienced sexual and gender-based violence, ensuring a holistic approach to community welfare.
  • Child Assault Prevention Programme: Launched in six schools, this program emphasizes the protection of children from violence, bullying, and other harmful actions, teaching them preventive methods and reassuring them of their right to be heard.

EDCF's Vision for the Future

EDCF’s vision extends beyond immediate projects. Subject to funding availability, it aims to cover all primary schools on the island with its Child Assault Prevention Programme. The organization's commitment to spreading awareness and providing tangible solutions to assault prevention is a testament to its dedication to the well-being of Dominica's younger generations.

EDCF's efforts are a shining example of how targeted community engagement and international collaboration can significantly improve social justice, safety, and economic sustainability in vulnerable communities.
