Girl Guides Association of Dominica (GGAD), established in 1929, is a prominent organization dedicated to the growth and development of girls and young women in Dominica. The association is a member of the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS), having gained full membership in 2008 after becoming an associate member in 1987. GGAD is renowned as the largest organization for girls and young women in Dominica, boasting a membership of over 700.

GGAD Program Structure

GGAD’s program is structured to cater to different age groups, offering a holistic approach to personal development:

  • Rainbows (Ages 5-7 years): Activities under "Let’s Have Fun"
  • Brownies (Ages 7-10 years): Under the theme "Inside the Brownie Carriage"
  • Guides (Ages 10-15 years): Focused on "The Sky is the Limit"
  • Rangers (Ages 15-19 years): Emphasizing "Reach For the Stars"

The organization is managed by a Council and an Executive body. The Executive is led by the Chief Commissioner and comprises the President, Vice President, Deputy Chief Commissioner, District Commissioners, a youth representative, and heads of various committees. The Chief Guide position is ceremonial, traditionally held by the wife of the President of the Commonwealth of Dominica.

GGAD Notable Events and Milestones

In 2019, GGAD celebrated its 90th anniversary with various activities, including a mass at the St. John & St. Lewis Roman Catholic Church in Portsmouth, reflecting on its history and looking forward to future growth and development with determination. The event was marked by the presence of notable personalities, including His Excellency Charles Savarin and Mrs. Clara Savarin, the Chief Guide.

Through its activities and programs, GGAD aims to increase awareness of the association and encourage more girls and young women to join and benefit from its empowering program
