Cabrits National Park Trails

Cabrits National Park, located on a peninsula just north of Portsmouth, Dominica, offers a variety of trails that immerse visitors in the island’s rich history and natural beauty. Established in 1986, the park encompasses 1,313 acres of tropical forests, coral reefs, and wetlands and is home to the restored 18th-century Fort Shirley.

Cabrits National Park Trails Options:

• East Cabrits Trail: This 1.7-mile out-and-back trail is moderately challenging and takes approximately 52 minutes to complete. Hikers are rewarded with panoramic views of Douglas Bay and the surrounding coastline.
• West Cabrits Trail: Offering a well-graded path with moderate inclines, this trail leads to the summit of West Cabrits, where visitors can explore historical ruins and enjoy scenic vistas.
• Douglas Bay and Swamp Trails: These shorter, easy trails meander through the park’s wetlands and coastal areas, providing opportunities to observe diverse flora and fauna.

The park also serves as the northern terminus of the Waitukubuli National Trail, the Caribbean’s longest hiking trail, which spans the length of Dominica.
