Cannonball Tree

The Cannonball Tree (Couroupita guianensis) is a unique tropical tree native to South America, but it is also found in Dominica, particularly on Dominica’s West Coast Villages and the Dominica Botanic Gardens. The tree is admired for its striking, fragrant flowers and large spherical fruits resembling cannonballs. In Dominica, it’s often appreciated for its ornamental value and contribution to the island’s rich botanical diversity. Locally, some refer to its fruit as “Jumbie Apricot“, comparing its fruits to the Mammee Apple.
