Carib Cinema

The Carib Cinema was the beloved movie theater in Roseau, Dominica, located at the corner of Old Street and Kennedy Avenue. Opened in the mid-20th century, the cinema became a key part of Dominica’s entertainment scene, offering a space for families, friends, and couples to enjoy movies together. For over 60 years, it stood as a cultural hub in the island’s capital. However, Carib Cinema faced significant challenges following the devastation of Hurricane David in 1979 and the advent of Marpin Telecoms & Broadcasting in 1981.

Despite these setbacks, the cinema was preserved and rebranded in 1994 as Prevo Cinemall, blending the charm and nostalgia of Carib Cinema with modern amenities. The Cinemall expanded to offer shops, dining, professional offices, and event spaces. Although the original Carib Cinema closed its doors in 2007, its legacy lives on through the Emerald Movies Theatre, established in 2018 as Dominica’s first 3D cinema, continuing the tradition of film entertainment on the island.
