Mammee Apple
The Mammee Apple (Mammea americana), also known as the South American Apricot, is a tropical fruit tree native to the Caribbean and Central America, including Dominica, similar to the Jumbie Apricot from the Cannonball Tree. The fruit is large and round with a sweet and tangy flavour, often used in making jams and desserts. It is sometimes called “Abrico” in Dominica and can be found in local gardens and markets like the Roseau Market and Mahaut Market. It thrives in tropical climates and is appreciated for its rich vitamin content and versatility in cooking.
