Dominica Rural Enterprise Project (D-REP)
The Dominica Rural Enterprise Project (D-REP) is an initiative to improve rural livelihoods by developing micro and small enterprises in Dominica. Supported by the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB) and the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), D-REP fosters economic growth in rural communities by providing training, resources, and business incubation programs. The project emphasizes sustainable agriculture, fishing, and tourism development, mainly through centres like the Rural Business Enterprise Centers in Paix Bouche and Sineku and the Castle Bruce Farmer Service Centre. This project is critical to Dominica’s strategy to boost employment and entrepreneurship, particularly among marginalized groups like the Kalinago community.
Project Objectives and Impact
The Dominica Rural Enterprise Project aims to strengthen the capacity of rural entrepreneurs by offering training, resources, and support. The Centres significantly provide services ranging from business development to creating local products, such as garments and crafts. These initiatives are vital in enhancing economic resilience and self-sufficiency in rural areas, contributing to Dominica’s broader efforts to develop rural economies and reduce poverty.
