Elias Orville Dupuis
Elias Orville Dupuis was a well-loved personality in Dominica, known for his significant contributions across various sectors, including media, sports, and public education. His tragic passing in a drowning incident at Titou Gorge has left a profound impact on the community, with the media community and Discover Dominica Authority employees mourning his loss. Dupuis, appreciated for his work with the Electoral Office and Discover Dominica Authority, was also celebrated for his photography skills and role as a co-owner of 365 Group Inc.
In addition to his media and photographic endeavors, Dupuis was deeply involved in sports, particularly basketball. He had an extensive career as a basketball referee, officiating games from the Dominica Amateur Basketball Association (DABA) Knockout Cup to the National Basketball League Finals. His passion for basketball was evident from an early age, having played the sport at both primary and high school levels in Dominica, and later during his time in Jamaica. Recognizing his substantial contributions and the impact of his personality on the sport, DABA has decided to name its 2024 Knockout Cup in his honour, celebrating his life and contributions to basketball in Dominica.
Dupuis’ dedication to his community and his passion for basketball and photography left an indelible mark on all those who knew him. His ability to communicate effectively with players, fans, and officials and his advocacy for discipline and mentorship highlighted his role as a pivotal figure in Dominica’s sporting and cultural landscape.
