Felix Henderson National Reading Competition

The Felix Henderson National Reading Competition is an annual event in Dominica aimed at promoting literacy among primary school students. Established in 2008 by the late Felix Henderson—a revered broadcaster and advocate for the Creole language—the competition seeks to enhance reading skills and foster a love for literature among the nation’s youth.

Inception and Evolution

Initiated in 2008, the competition began with over 60 participants, culminating in a grand final at the Arawak House of Culture. The inaugural winner was Rhillah Benjamin from Berean Christian Academy. Over the years, the competition has grown in prestige and participation, becoming a cornerstone of Dominica’s educational landscape.
