The Fond Cole Industrial Area, located approximately one mile north of Roseau, is one of Dominica’s vital industrial zones. It houses numerous businesses, including manufacturing, trading companies, and storage facilities. Prominent enterprises such as Maxroy Trading Co. Ltd. and Jolly’s Mega Store operate in this area, which is well-positioned due to its proximity to the Woodbridge Bay Deep Water Harbour, facilitating efficient logistics and access to maritime trade. The Fond Cole Power Station, which is nearby and serves as a significant energy hub for the island, is operated by Dominica Electricity Services Ltd. (DOMLEC), Dominica’s electricity provider. The area’s strategic location makes it ideal for commercial and industrial development.

Waste Management and Economic Impact

One of the most notable facilities in the Fond Cole Industrial Area is the Fond Cole Sanitary Landfill, which spans approximately 18 acres. This landfill, managed by the Dominica Solid Waste Management Corporation, began operations in 2005 and is designed to handle various types of waste, including industrial, commercial, and household. The landfill is also vital in sustainable waste management and is equipped with leachate and gas extraction systems to mitigate environmental impact.
