Galion

Galion is a village in the Saint Mark Parish of Dominica. Galion is also spelt Gallion. With a population of about 200 people, Galion remains one of the remotest parts of Dominica and one of the least visited areas.

The village is located high in the mountains and overlooks the intersection between the Caribbean sea and the Atlantic. Galion sits on a volcanic crater above Scotts Head and Soufriere, two major fishing villages. This means that Soufriere can be seen from Galion, given the high location of the village – making some people refer to the village as Point Galion.

Although Galion is located at a high altitude, the few inhabitants of the village love crabbing – fishing for crabs for consumption or sales. There is a massive population of land crabs in Galion, and many villagers pick them for sales in the market.
