Gretta Roberts

Gretta Roberts is a seasoned educator and politician from the village of Grand Fond in Saint David Parish, Dominica. She currently serves as the Minister for Culture, Youth, Sports, and Community Development in Dominica’s Cabinet.

Early Life and Education of Gretta Roberts

Born in Grand Fond, Roberts is the daughter of the late Gertrude Roberts, a former Minister for Community Development and Women’s Affairs in Dominica. Gretta Roberts began her education at Grand Fond Primary School and later attended Convent High School. Following the devastation of Hurricane David in 1979, she temporarily relocated to Saint Vincent before returning to Dominica to complete her secondary education at Dominica Grammar School.

Career in Education

Roberts embarked on her teaching career in 1980, dedicating over three decades to education. She served as principal at both Goodwill Primary School and Roseau Primary School, earning the title of Primary School Principal of the Year in 2014. In 2018, she was appointed Secretary-General of the Dominica National Commission for UNESCO, reflecting her commitment to educational and cultural development.

Political Career

In the 2019 general elections, Roberts was elected to the House of Assembly, succeeding Ivor Stephenson. She initially served as the Minister for Governance, Public Service Reform, Citizen Empowerment, Social Justice, and Ecclesiastical Affairs. Following the 2022 general elections, she was appointed Minister for Culture, Youth, Sports, and Community Development, overseeing various initiatives that promote national identity, youth empowerment, sports development, and community resilience.
