Laudat Power Stations

The Laudat Power Station, located in Laudat, Saint George Parish, Dominica, is essential to the island’s hydroelectric energy infrastructure. With a generating capacity of 1.24 MW, it is one of the smaller but crucial plants operated by Dominica Electricity Services Ltd. (DOMLEC). The power station utilizes a run-of-the-river hydroelectric system, which harnesses water from the surrounding rivers and lakes, including the Freshwater Lake and the Trafalgar Falls area, to generate electricity for the island. This plant is part of a broader network of renewable energy facilities, including the Trafalgar and PADU power stations, which also operate on hydroelectric energy.

Environmental and Economic Importance

As one of the country’s key renewable energy sources, the Laudat Power Station significantly reduces Dominica’s reliance on fossil fuels, supporting the nation’s push towards sustainable energy development.
