Mahaut
Mahaut is a village in the Saint Paul Parish of Dominica.
A village with a population of about 2,700 people, Mahaut is a fishing community and a favourite attraction for tourists. Many of the residents are fishermen, while farmers and businessmen also work to keep the community thriving.
The Dominica Colgate-Palmolive company, formerly known as Dominica Coconut Products, was situated in the village but the company shut down operations in 2015 following Hurricane Erica.
In order to make Mahaut a model village and deal with environmental pollution, the Mahaut community established the “Mahaut Environment Protection and Enhancement Project” in 2012. The project was an initiative of the Mahaut Village Council and the Small Grants Programme, and was aimed at effective waste disposal and community beautification.
